 How Reverse Osmosis Water Filters Works

 The carbon filters in a water filter absorbs the impurities in the water and get rid of the strange odor water might have.  With the reverse osmosis process, the water is drawn into another type of filter which is actually an extremely fine membrane.  This is a semi permeable membrane that makes for a more aggressive filtering of the water that goes into your house.

This process was originally developed and used for water in submarines.

With a reverse osmosis water filter, the contaminated water is put on one side of the membrane and pressure is applied on it.  This pressure stops and reverses the osmotic process making for cleaner finely filtered water.  Water filters using reverse osmosis can be a bit expensive but no one can actually put a price on health. 

On the other hand, doctors and experts also do point out that there are some minerals in water that are needed to improve health.  If one drinks distilled water for a prolonged period, there can also be harmful effects.  Distilled water can be identical to the water produced from reverse osmosis.
